







































Each drawing has emerged from a meditative process that begins with the perimeter line of a perfect circle, evolving thereafter from repeated attempts to perfectly copy the preceding line. Small mistakes accumulate, creating images reminiscent of fingerprints or tree rings.
Over 15 years this simple approach has grown from doodling into an in depth engagement with a range of experiences and issues creating possibilities for conversations around our desire for perfection and discomfort with fallibility.
The number of circles drawn, the surface or the pens or pencils used were determined by each drawing’s meditation. Drawings took place as live performance for specific sites, in conversation with work/study teams, by commission or privately in my studio.

Admitting the Possibilities of Error beside (and in honour of) the Cambridge Oak using colours suggested by 42 people asked to choose one colour to draw a tree, with accompanying historical timeline sourced from Wikipedia on May 29 2015
The Cambridge Oak was planted around 1873 making it 142 years old. I drew one circle for each year of its life. The tree has developed a fungal infection and is now dying. A graft was planted on Cory Lawn in 1991 and is growing well.
I started this sketchbook in February, since then it has been responded to by 4 other members of my Drawing Circle group. These are the pages before it begins another circuit of creative responses.
